The Amazing King Midas

April 13, 2007

As you know, each year Forbes releases a list of The World’s Billionaires for two years the top 3 was dominated by the same 3 titans, Bill Gates, Warren Buffett and Carlos Slim Helú, until now. It seems that a few days ago the Mexican billionaire, best known as “King Midas” reached the second position removing Buffett of his place of honor. Forbes hasn’t updated the list, but they announced it in this article. The most incredible thing is not the fact that he’s worth $53.1 billion, but the way he achieve it in very few time. It took him less than two months to add the amazing amount of $4 billion to his personal fortune. Some experts say that if Slim continues with this tendency he will remove Gates from the first place very soon, and he will become the World’s richest man.

He’s only $2.9 billion bellow Bill Gates. But remember that he’s currently making $2.2 million per hour!. Some of his many talents are that he is an excellent economist and that he has the ability to rise broken companies. He’s really an example of success and vision. But what can we learn from the titan? obviously a lot of things like for example:

– Never guide yourself for other’s opinions.

– Never accept “Impossible” for an answer.

– See further than others.

– Have the ability to see the potential success where others only see failure.

Wow, that’s some serious money making skills right there. Hopefully he uses the money as he says he will in helping Mexico with it’s social ills and not be just a greedy bastard as most would be.

I don’t think this guy is amazing at all. If you read more about how he actually made his money and what he is doing down in Mexico you might not be as impressed.
This guy gives nothing back to anyone nor does he attempt to help the dying people in his country. Warren Buffet for example, gives billions away to charity every year.
I admire the fact that he is a smart man, but having all that wealth means nothing to me if it is gained off the broken backs of a dying nation.

Hi James thanks for sharing. Thanks for sharing,The amazing thing is his ability to make money. He has many investments not just in Mexico but in the U.s and other countries. He said “Poverty isn’t solved with donations,” That’s true. and he also said that it is more important to create schools and increase the level of education than just go around giving money like Santa Claus.

Hmm very interesting. I do agree with him about handing out donations, the schools will have a longer lasting effect.

Yeap, it is so true George, I live in México, and I do agree with what Carlos Slims says. Event though he has a very big foundation here in Mexico that helps the less fortunate people. He can´t be the savior of a nation, what about the other people in México that has a lot money too and the own goverment?

On the other side, Telmex, wich is the “only” comunications company in México, is freaking expensive and it´s the second in the world more expensive telephone service. For instance I pay $120USD a month for Internet broadband connection 2MB and telephone rent. And we are only two persons.

México is a country with a very high percentage of analphabetism, and this is a major problem, that´s why we are #1 in migrating people to other countries, the poor people is not prepared for a good job, so they search jobs on the fields.

In resume, Carlos Slim with out a doubt is a very good business man.

    Note:
He will give free internet wireless broadband via WiMax to 98% of Chile country.

i definitive aggree with sabo. I also live in mexico on the fronteer with texas. it is very frustrating seeing the USA TV ads that at&t is offering a much better broadband conection for 14 dlls wihile we are paying 120 dlls for 2MB. But, We all have to agree that he is very good buisness man managing alot of companies, one is a very know to the american and that is COMPUSA, i belive he owns 60% of it.

Got something to say?
